On December 6th, representatives of EASIER: Giacomo Inches, Martel Innovate, project coordinator and Mark Wheatley, executive director of EUD, WP1 leader, attended the event “Disability-Inclusive Metaverse” organised by European Disability Forum and hosted by Meta in Brussels.
It is key to build diversity, equity and inclusion into the metaverse from the get-go. Together with the EDF, Meta looks forward to discussing the impact the metaverse can have on those with a disability.
The partners could test the latest available technologies to communicate and collaborate in the metaverse and have a proficient discussion about the usability and accessibility of such technologies. In particular, the panelists and the public could exchange points of view on avatar creations in the metaverse (e.g. cartoon-like vs. Hyperrealistic) and remark on the importance of close captioning and algorithms to make it possible for users of all abilities, in particular deaf, to be proficient and active in the XR world.
