Gamescom is a trade fair for the video games industry held annually since 2018 in Cologne, used by many developers to exhibit game-related hardware. Alongside Gamescom is Devcom, a portion of the convention dedicated to video game development (with a focus on accessibility in games and other media UI/UX design). Gamescom is the world’s largest gaming event, measured by exhibition space and the number of visitors. In 2022, more than 250,000 visitors came to see 1,100 exhibitors from 53 different countries.
Our project partner Nuromedia participated in the event invited by Nurogames (Games SME), its partner company, to present “EASIER” at their exhibition stand in the business area, placing EASIER stickers and presenting the project website and the project’s evolution.
Raising awareness towards the topic of inclusion and accessibility.
On the project, the Nuromedia’s team focuses on developing web and mobile applications for necessary testing/data generation. Implementing inclusion and accessibility in early design phases was crucial to achieve the accessibility goals. For applications such as chatbots, therapy, healthcare, and training softwares, the EASIER technologies filled in the gaps that are needed for accessibility stewardship.
Nuromedia will engage initiatives such as “Gaming ohne grenzen” for outreach and impact creation.
Thanks to this knowledge, Nurogames exchanged with the partners about avatar and sign language, leading to a meeting being organised between Athena and Nurogames.
Nurogames has a CREA games project “The Last Martian” with “An original core mechanic that uses sign language to convey the mute hero’s dialogue. The game also teaches the players the basics of sign language (International Sign Language), thus creating interest in this matter for kids and the whole family” using a comic-style avatar, signing ASL.
